A bull in a china shop is a well-known English idiom.

The corresponding Bulgarian idiom literally means an elephant in a glass shop (слон в стъкларски магазин, slon v stăklarski magazin).

Not a good idea to hang good old Winston's portrait in one's government office, e.g. after one has been elected again.

Here are some reasons why:

He oversaw the Gallipoli disaster in 1915.

He lost the general election in the UK in the summer of 1945, even though he had just been (apparently) victorious in the war.

He failed at the Potsdam Conference and in his interactions with Stalin in general.

[EN;bg] A Kingdom for an Editor! *** Царство за редактор!

Perhaps artificial intelligence can be useful as an editor (in the sense of one who corrects and improves texts).

There is a great need but little glory in this role, and there seems to be a deficit of editors, or worse.

Here is a recent example, coming from a very reputable source at that (they may have already noticed and corrected this particular one, but that is how it was published):

"demands to restore diplomatic [sic] rule".

(Should be "democratic", of course; the context is a political situation after a coup d'etat.)

Note that this is not a job for a spelling checker or a grammar checker.

[bg] Братя Стругацкие за тоталитаризмът

През 2017 Marginalia публикува един текст на Борис Стругацкий за фашизмът (препратка по-долу).

Текстът е от 1995, което е добре, защото осигурява независимост на твърденията на авторът от сегашните злободневни пристрастия.

Братя Стругацкие са писали поне две много съществени неща за тоталитаризмът: „Трудно е да бъдеш бог“ („Трудно быть богом“)

и „Охлюв по стръмното“ („Улитка на склоне“, още преведена като „Охлюв на склона“).

Предлагам и препоръчвам да четете и тези книги, а ако сте ги чели, да помислите за тях.

Първата е замаскирана като забавно четиво; втората е по-мрачна и, разбира се, ви трябва пълната ѝ версия, която не е можело да излезе по съветско време.
