One Benito Mussolini, also known as Il Duce (The Leader), had ambitions to Make Italy Great Again.
Apart from everything else, he embarked on several conquests in Africa and the Balkans.
They ended badly; he ended badly, too.

By the way, Venetian doge (looks familiar?) and Italian duce are cognates (both come from Latin dux, leader, whence English duke as well).
