Finally I understand why dogs are our best friends:
dogs don't talk nonsense.

I took the liberty of constructing the Japanese expression above: inu-do, "the way of the dog", by analogy to bushi-do, "the way of the warrior".
I hear that the dogs of this breed are called "samurai dogs", because they are very faithful and trustworthy.
(The proper name of the breed photographed above, shiba-inu (柴犬), means "brushwood dog": they flush game out of undergrowth for hunters.)
