A b can be the symbol for bit, but the symbol for byte ought to be By.
Has it ever occurred to you that kB is kilobel and KB could be interpreted as kelvin-bel (properly K•B), whatever that might measure?
In this context, MB, GB, TB, ... might be useful to describe the Big Bang (if there were someone there in the cosmic forest to hear it).
Note the swarm of Bs: my kingdom for an... alliteration.
